Nevil Shute I think that the contents of a book are far more important than the style. An author should write as well as he is able to, because one of his jobs is to make his book easy to read, but no book will be successful, however good the writing, if the contents are trivial and not worth reading.

Nevil Shute offered innovation in may of his novels. With each new work, he developed his skills to fabricate a novel more improved than the one preceding it. In A Town Like Alice, Shute allows a woman to be the eagle-eye entrepreneur to renovate a small one-horse town in the outback. A heart-rending story of strength in adversity, A Town Like Alice by Nevil Shute is a celebration of the overwhelming power of love.

But reading A Town Like Alice in 2020 is a odd experience. Firstly there are some outdated concepts and language. Nevil Shute's language and descriptions of the aboriginal people in Australia would hopefully be deemed unacceptable by publishers today. Secondly the book feels old fashioned in terms of pacing and material.

Fem svarta höns som den hette när den gick som tv-serie hemma i Sverige för hur länge sedan  28 apr. 2010 — När boken kom ut 1950 hette den The Legacy (testamentet) och tv serie och film heter A town like Alice, vilket boken också heter numera. 2 jan. 2012 — Fem svarta höns heter A town like Alice i original, men den svenska översättningen tycker jag passar bättre.

2012 — Det här är definitivt en ny favorit i författarkåren för mig och jag har nu siktet inställt på A Town Like Alice. Någon som läst? Det verkar klurigt att  Fem svarta höns a.k.a. A town like Alice är en klassiker från 50-talet av Nevil Shute. Boken utspelar sig efter andra världskriget och handlar om den unga  21 sep.

A Town Like Alice is one of my all-time favorite books. Certainly, my favorite Nevil Shute! Everything about it is wonderful; the characters, the story, the theme, the history. Such a time when tragedies abounded everywhere, this tale (based on actual events) offers a truly hopeful and satisfying ending. A Town Like Alice by Aussie author Nevil Shute is an exceptional tale.
